UWC
UWC (United World Colleges) is program that fosters peace and sustainable future by providing better educational opportunities to students from across the world including Afghanistan. UWC’s mission is: “UWC schools, colleges and programmes deliver a challenging and transformative educational experience to a diverse cross section of students, inspiring them to create a more peaceful and sustainable future.”
UWC has colleges in Africa, Asia, Central/South America, North America, and Europe. In 12 of its 13 colleges around the world UWC teaches the IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma. UWC trains and provides scholarships to train students in one of the three following areas:
- Schools for students across a wide age range, providing students of all ages with the opportunity to gain a UWC education
- Two year pre-university colleges teaching the IB Diploma to students typically aged between 16 and 19 years
- Three year tertiary level agricultural training college
The program most suitable to Afghan students is the Two year pre-university. Most Afghan students have studied at UWC colleges through this program and have earned their diplomas. These students have not only been successful at UWC but have also made their way to world’s top universities.
